International Relations

The aim of this course is to introduce the theory and practice of relations among states. The course examines the motivations of cooperation and conflict among nations in order to relate with key issues, problems and opportunities surrounding the contemporary world order. It explores concepts such as state sovereignty, balance of power, national interest, foreign policy and diplomacy in order to explain the context of relations between and among states. The course achieves this by adopting an integrative approach that benefits from the interaction of classical paradigms of international relations and contemporary statecraft.
